POSITION OPEN – FULL-TIME IT COORDINATOR

Reports to Head of Adult Reference Services; Head of Circulation Services; Business Manager

The Eisenhower Public Library District is looking for an IT professional for this new-to-us position. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic about providing back-end IT support in an environment that serves the public. You will be working primarily with staff, but also may field some patron questions on occasion. We serve a tax-paying community of 23,000 residents. However, as we are surrounded by Chicago, we also serve many Chicago residents as well. The Eisenhower Library is a member of the SWAN consortium, an organization that provides access to and maintains a patron and collection database for 100 south and southwest suburban libraries. You will be responsible for working with members of SWAN staff in order to provide consistent and accurate access to our records. Our user population has a wide range of IT skills and needs. As such we must maintain multiple types of IT for public use. In addition, you will be directly responsible for maintaining a network that supports data in multiple formats.

To be considered for this position you must have:

  • B.S. in Computer Science OR CompTIA A+ Certificate with 2 years network administration experience
  • Two years customer service experience
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, and for “on-call” duty
  • Access to transportation

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Administering desktop, network, and phone support for the organization
  • Creating and maintaining clear and comprehensive systems documentation and reporting
  • Ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of all technology systems
  • Providing formal and informal technology training to staff
  • Ensuring all aspects of privacy and security related to organizational computer systems
  • Developing, adhering to, and routinely evaluating a library technology plan
  • Working with the Management Team to evaluate emerging technology for implementation

Your knowledge, skills, and abilities should include:

  • Ability to empathize and relate to the needs of staff and patrons
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative for responsibilities and tasks
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local area networks, Microsoft Office suite of products, domain and user management, workstation authentication, and Group Policy
  • Thorough understanding of end point security, network security, and firewall management, including implementation of VPNs
