The Mindful Vagabond: Searching for South America

April 13th,

Fresh off a 22-month world trip, Brian Michalski is on the road again - this time spending over a year in South America. As he trekked the Inca Trail, navigated pristine Patagonia and explored the Amazon rainforest, he also volunteered, took Spanish classes, earned his English teaching certificate and worked remotely.

Registration begins February 3 for Norridge and Harwood Heights patrons with valid library cards. Registration for all begins February 10.

Learn the Carvey: Engraved Bookmark

The Carvey machine engraves, carves, or cuts flat materials like wood, plastic, and metal. Learn the basics of the Carvey's software and create a personalized wooden bookmark. Adults and teens 7th grade and up.

Three Chords and the Truth: Slightly More than Basic Guitar

If you know a few guitar chords and can move between chords, join us to learn about tabs and beats. We'll also be playing songs as a group in every session. Registration is for all six sessions.

Sally Rand, American Sex Symbol

 Her name was Sally Rand and two ostrich feathers in a second-hand store rescued her from obscurity. She would appear in more than thirty films, be named after a Road Atlas, be arrested six times in one day for indecency, and live on as the iconic symbol of the Chicago World's Fair of 1933. She would pave the way for every sex symbol to follow from Marilyn Monroe to Lady Gaga, and would die penniless and in debt. William Hazelgrove will tell you the full story of Sally Rand.

Culture of Safety

Empowerment self-defense is an approach to personal safety that recognizes that violence occurs in a context, and all too often is at the hands of a known assailant.  In addition to physical self-defense skills, empowerment self-defense includes training in awareness of risks, recognizing signs of danger, and effective verbal and para-verbal boundary-setting and assertiveness skills.  For ages 16 through adult.

Jack Wilson Fingerpicking Guitar
