Scars of Custer's Defeat

Many history buffs know that Lt. Col. George Armstrong died at the Little Bighorn on June 25, 1876. For more than a century, historians have studied the strategy, tactics, and other related factors that resulted in his demise, and the death of hundreds, both soldiers and Native Americans. But few people know of the seldom discussed human element -- the hardship and tragedy his death had on the Custer family, friends and the residents of Monroe, Michigan, where George and his wife, Libbie, had a home.
