Friends Annual Book Sale

October 6th,
10:00am to 4:00pm
This annual sale featuring 1000s of books, movies and more is open to the public and helps to support the Friends of the Library group in its mission to enhance the library and its services. Hardcovers, DVDs, and CDs: $1:00. Children's books and paperbacks: 50 cents. Look for the sale on the library's second floor.

Pixel Power

October 6th,
2:00pm to 3:30pm
Grade 3-6. Registration Required.

Art goes 8-bit! Bring digital art to the real world and make your very own pixel creation. Be completely original, or use one of our many patterns.

Registration starts August 7th for Norridge and Harwood Heights residents with current library cards. All others may register beginning August 14th. Priority for Kids World programs is given to Norridge and Harwood Heights residents.

Open Workshop Hours

9:00am to 12:30pm
Stop in during open Workshop hours to get creative. Work on a self-directed project with our sewing machines, embroidery machines, digital media lab, or other Workshop equipment. Staff will be available to help out or offer project suggestions.

Fall Family Fun Fest

It's time for our annual fall celebration. Bring the whole family to the library for games, activities, sidewalk chalk, duck pond prizes, and craft projects throughout the day. Special guest Brian Wismer will make incredible pumpkin balloon art! Fun for all!

Crazy 8s Math Club

4:30pm to 5:45pm
Grades K-2. Registration required (for the full eight weeks)

Join Bedtime Math's Crazy 8s Club to build stuff, run and jump, make music, make a mess . it's a totally new kind of math club. You'll get to do mischief-making activities like Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry, Bouncy Dice, and Toilet Paper Olympics. You'll take home cool gadgets, too.

Registration is for all eight classes; note that there is no class October 2nd.

The Beatles in Chicago

On John Lennon's birthday Robert Rodriguez examines The Beatle's ties to Chicago through radio airplay, U.S. releases, Midwest tours, and John's "apology" for his controversial "more popular than Jesus" comments at the Astor Towers.

Drop-in Junior Storytime

Modern Times Film Series: La La Land

The Modern Times Film series showcases new additions to the library's movie collection.

This month's movie will be the musical La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as an aspiring actress and a jazz pianist falling in love in Los Angeles. Rated PG-13. 2h 8m.

Teen Music Club

October 10th,
4:00pm to 6:00pm
Musicians of all levels in grades 7-12 are invited to hang out with friends and geek out about music. During each session, we'll talk about music, write songs, learn some instruments, and make recordings in the Workshop studio. Bring your ideas, instruments, and friends.

Bus Trip: The Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art

October 11th,
10:15am to 2:15pm
$25.00 - Inside its fabulous jewel box of a building, Elmhurst's Lizzadro Museum displays intricate carvings of jade, amber, ivory, coral, and agate from around the world alongside faceted gemstone treasures and earth science exhibits. After an introduction and a short video, tour the museum on your own. Don't forget to stop in the gift shop! Bring money for the famous Italian lunch buffet at Angelo's Ristorante after the tour.
