Kirsten Larson discusses the history of victory gardens, vegetable gardens planted at homes and public parks during wartime to reduce the pressure on the public food supply, and illustrates how today's gardeners can grow successful plants that add to their family's healthy eating habits.

Classic Film Series: Ninotchka (1939)

A stern Russian woman sent to Paris on official business finds herself attracted to a man who represents everything she is has been taught to detest. Directed by Ernst Lubitsch, with Greta Garbo and Melvin Douglas. Film historian Ralph Amelio leads a discussion following the movie.

Music and the Movies: Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll

For his 60th birthday, musicians including Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Linda Rondstadt, Etta James, and more celebrate the life of Chuck Berry with a once-in-a-lifetime concert. With revealing offstage glimpses and celebrity interviews.

Movie in the Park: Ghostbusters

Get set for spooky campfire stories at the annual Community Camp Out with the classic paranormal comedy Ghostbusters at Norridge Park. Sign up at a park district facility to spend the night camping under the stars. Camp Out begins at 6:30 pm. Showtime: 9:00 pm. Rain date: Saturday, August 8th.

Friends Book Sale

Look for the Friends of the Library in the Book Sale room on the first floor, next to the Quiet Room on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month to support the library and find great deals. Hardcovers, DVDs & CDs $1.00, and paperbacks 50 cents.
