Comic Book Confidential: A Comics Camp for Teens

10:00am to 2:00pm
Get a peek into the comic book world by working with professional writers and artists, Eric Rohmann, Ali Cantarella, and Wesley Sun to bring your comic vision to life. You'll end up with your own mini-comic and everyone's work will be bound into a book that will be available for checkout from the library. All materials will be supplied but feel free to bring your favorite writing and drawing tools.

Reach for that Pencil and DRAW!

Pencil and paper = power! Together let's learn to draw and make it fun. All supplies are provided, just bring your imagination.

Library Lock-In

Ever wonder what the library is like after everyone leaves for the day? Join us for our Library Lock-In! We will be playing games, watching movies, and telling spooky stories. Get your permission form in Kids World for your chance to be one of the lucky 50 kids chosen to spend the night at the library.

Movie in the Park: The Wizard of Oz

Pack a picnic, grab a chair or a blanket, and join us at Norridge Park for free screenings of classic family friendly movies under the stars.

Dorothy and Toto are swept away from their Kansas farm to the Land of Oz and embark on a quest with her new friends, the Tinman, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion to see the Wonderful Wizard who can help her get back home. Rated G. 1h 42m.

Open Workshop Hours

Stop in during open Workshop hours to get creative. Work on a self-directed project with our sewing machines, embroidery machines, digital media lab, or other Workshop equipment. Staff will be available to help out or offer project suggestions.

The Workshop: The Serger

July 22nd,
2:00pm to 3:30pm
Get training on using one of our new library sewing tools - the serger, a special sewing machine used to prevent material from fraying at the edge.

Registration begins February 6th for Norridge and Harwood Heights residents with a current library card. All others may register beginning February 13th.

Friends Book Sale

July 22nd,
2:00pm to 4:00pm
Look for the Friends of the Library in the Book Sale room on the first floor, next to the Quiet Room on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month to support the library and find great deals. Hardcovers, DVDs & CDs: $1.00. Paperbacks: 50 cents.

U Make: A Maze

July 24th,
3:00pm to 4:30pm
Grades 2-6. Registration required.

Design and draw mazes for our Ozobot mini-robots. The codes and the color combinations that you draw are the robot's commands. Can you make them spin, zoom, dance, and flash? We'll start with specific challenges and races and then end with collaborative free-form designing.

Registration begins on May 25 for Norridge and Harwood Heights residents with a current library card. All others may register starting June 1.

Take-Apart Lab: Family

6:30pm to 7:30pm
Learn about how things work by taking them apart and exploring what's under the surface of everyday objects such as electronics, toys, gadgets, and more. Take apart all kinds of computer parts!

Registration begins May 1 for Norridge and Harwood Heights residents with a valid library card. All others may register beginning May 8. Drop-ins may be accommodated based on project supply availability.
