Eisenhower Speaks Your Language

The Eisenhower Public Library District is offering a new program aimed at our patrons whose primary language is one other than English. With support from the American Dream Starts @ Your Library Grant, supported by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and the American Library Association, the Eisenhower Speaks Your Language program offers materials and events that engage the English learners in our community and support their progress to English language fluency.

Programs to learn English are available on dedicated laptops, CDs and iPods for a wide variety of languages. "Conversation Corners" will be taking place on the first Tuesday of each month throughout the year from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. to offer an opportunity for learners to practice speaking English together in a friendly, non-critical environment. There will also be workshops with immigration specialists who will provide vital information to our patrons on the road to citizenship.

Eisenhower receives Best Buy / YALSA Grant

Eisenhower Public Library District is pleased to announce that it has received a $2,000 grant from Best Buy Mobile and YALSA (the Young Adult Library Services Division of the American Library Association).  The grant is earmarked for electronic resources for the Teen department.  Eisenhower plans to use the money to purchase dedicated nook e-readers.  These will be filled with e-books by authors for the 2014 LitWorks teen literature festival, a program sponsored by Eisenhower and Ridgewood High School.

2014 will be the fifth year for LitWorks, a community supported event that attracts approximately 300 teens, parents, and teachers.  Having participating authors’ books available electronically will give teens a different way to experience these vibrant stories.  LitWorks nooks will be available starting this summer.

LitWorks 2013

Join us for our 4th Annual LitWorks Teen Reading Event on Saturday, April 6th from 9:00 to 4:00.  The program is free for all teens and only $5.00 for adults.  You will be able to meet six amazing authors: Jennifer Bradbury, Brent Crawford, Mark Crilley, Matt de la Pena, Alex Flinn, and Laura Resau.  Your day will start out at Eisenhower Library at 9:00 for an open author session where you'll meet all six authors and have snacks provided by the eCafe.

Eisenhower Public Library District Celebrates 40 Years of Community

2013 marks Eisenhower Public Library District's 40th anniversary as a tax-funded public library serving the communities of Norridge and Harwood Heights. With our theme of "40 Years of Community," Eisenhower's upcoming year-long celebration will be putting the emphasis on you, the community we serve. The 40th Anniversary Planning Committee has been hard at work planning a year-long series of event to celebrate this important milestone. These activities will bring families, friends, and neighbors together as we share experiences and make new connections with one another.
