The library will be closed at 5:00 pm on Wednesday 11/27 and all day on Thursday 11/28 in observance of Thanksgiving. Thank you for returning on Friday.
As our One Book, One Community program comes to a close, you're not going to want to miss the grand finale, a re-enactment of the infamous 1938 Orson Wells radio play of The War of the Worlds that sent the country into a panic 75 years ago. On Wednesday, October 30th, the SAG-AFTRA Senior Radio Players will peform the original script along with musical accompaniment and live sound effects. Just like old time radio. To register for this unique event, call 708-867-2299 or sign up online.
It's Banned Books Week. Celebrate the freedom to read with us! Check out our lobby display featuring some of 2012 and 2013's banned and challenged books and look for trading cards featuring trivia questions about banned classics. Collect them all!
Norridge and Harwood Heights residents should be receiving our Autumn/Winter newsletter in the mail this week. If you don't get one, stop in at the library and pick one up or browse it online. Registration for Autumn programs begins Monday, September 16th.
We're participating in the Big Library Read event, a global movement of passionate readers supporting the availability of eBooks and audiobooks at libraries. From September 16th through September 30th, all Eisenhower Library card holders can borrow and enjoy eBook and audiobook versions of the Big Library Read selection, Nancy Clancy, Super Sleuth by Jane O'Connor with no holds or waitlists.
Now that school is back in session, we will be open on Sundays from 1:00 - 5:00 pm offering services to families, working people and students who might have a hard time making it to the library during the week.
The Library will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in honor of Labor Day. Take a moment to thank America's hard workers!
Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, September 3rd at 9:00 am.
Please welcome Fannie Schmoe's Bakery to the Library. A labor of love, brother and sister Stephanie and Joseph have spent years perfecting their family recipes for cookies, kolaczkis, scones, muffins, quiches and more. Stop in bright and early to say hello, grab a cup of coffee and taste some of their delicious creations. Fannie Schmoe's is open from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 7:00 am - 5:00 pm, Friday and Saturday; closed on Wednesday and Sunday.
The tally is in! In April, we hung a net in the lobby of the Library and asked you to fill it with messages written on ping pong balls. Once the net was full, we wondered if you could guess how many messages were received. With 167 guesses from kids, teens and adults, we now have our winners. Kathleen and Kamila took the "Price is Right" approach, guessing 1001 and 1002, thus coming closest to the actual number of messages, 1036.
Congratulations to Kathleen and Kamila. They have each earned an Anywhere Table Tennis Set that attaches to any regular table so they can play ping pong everywhere they go.
Thank you to everyone that left us a message of support or guessed a number.
