With the Black Panther movie hitting theaters, there are a few things in the story line that grab my attention. I grew up in a town called Wauconda, which shares the same pronunciation as the Black Panther’s mythical home country of Wakanda. My Wauconda doesn’t have a stash of vibranium, nor is it home to a fabulously-powered, cool-costumed superhero, but it is funny to hear its name in popular culture.
The special forces warrior women of Wakanda called Dora Milaje remind me of the album art and strong vibe of Santigold’s 2010 album Masters of My Make-Believe.
