A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers

A Psalm for the Wild Built

Full disclosure: I’m not generally a sci-fi fan. I honestly just picked this up because it had great reviews and it was short.

Well… I read this in one sitting.

Set centuries in the future, robots have gained self-awareness and have since all wandered into the wilderness never to be seen again. The world is now back to hand tools and have turned their back on electricity and electronics.

Dex is a talented tea monk, who travels on a bicycle-powered wagon to villages where they listen and serve tea to anyone who needs it. However, as time goes on, Des feels like there is something more out of life. They are no longer content. So they pack up everything they have and go on a journey into the wilderness.

They meet Splendid Spotted Mosscap (Mosscap for short) whose journey is to find out what humans need. How they work. What they want.

In this funny, touching, and sweet short book, the two try to learn who they are while building the foundation of friendship.
