A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle

A Wrinkle in Time

“It was a dark and stormy night,” might be one of the most clichéd lines in literature. Charles Schultz even gave it to Snoopy when the dog started his literary career. It also happens to be the first line in Madeline L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time.

Snoopy had some problems pulling all his thoughts together. L’Engle had no such trouble. The book follows Meg, her little brother Charles Wallace and her almost boyfriend Calvin across galaxies as they go on a journey to rescue her father, lost on a secret scientific mission. They travel with a fallen star and other freedom fighters by wrinkling space and time, or using a tesseract. The journey takes them to Camazotz, a planet ruled by the giant brain IT and completely overtaken by the evil that is shadowing Earth. Meg, Charles Wallace and Calvin will have to use everything they have, especially their faults, to save her father and get themselves back home.

The new film version of A Wrinkle in Time with Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Storm Reid, Zach Galifianakis and Chris Pine opens March 9th.

You still have time to read the book.
