Adaptive or Assistive Equipment
You can use the following devices while in the library:
- Portable Video Magnifier
- Portable magnifiers (See the Reference Desk)
- Screen magnification and text-to-speech software on all public internet computers
- Mobility Scooter for getting around the library
- Wheelchair for getting around the library
- The library website has an accessibility function
- Adaptive mice and controllers
- High contrast keyboards
Large Print Books
We offer a wide variety of large print books. Look for our large print collection as soon as you walk into the Adult Collection, just south of the New Book Area. Large Print books in Kids World are interfiled among the collection. Any staff member in the Adult or Kids departments can help you find titles.

We have a great collection of audiobooks on CD and Playaway audiobook devices. You can also download audiobooks to play on a variety of devices.
The State of Illinois offers assistance to the disabled through its National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. Also, see the Talking Book & Braille Service from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office. Our Outreach Librarian is available to help patrons acquire the equipment and teach people how to use it.
