“Best! Food! Ever!”
Warning: this book may cause drooling.
This lovely picture book biography traces Alice Water’s food revolution back to her picking fresh strawberries from her family’s garden at age four. The story conveys Alice’s enthusiasm as she first notices food, then studies food and courageously founds her restaurant (still renown in its 50th year), serving only fresh and local foods. The upbeat writing lends itself to a read-aloud and the bright gouache illustrations are both childlike and full of supporting details.
Back matter includes a timeline, bibliography, a bit about the history of food in America and a summary of Alice’s work with schools and kids.
Recommended for ages 3-103.
