To be honest, I never read anything of Joyce Carol Oates, although I always heard her name spoken with reverence. This winter, I chose to pick up her first book of poems in 25 years to see what all the hype is about.
Well, now I know.
Covering topics that range from racism, politics, poverty, love, and death, she writes in a lyrical, empathetic style.
If you love poetry, the author, or if you’re just in the mood for personal and honest writing, be sure to pick up this collection. I will be sure to pick up more of her novels and poetry collections in the future.
