In the new graphic novel from horror writer (and son of Stephen King) Joe Hill and artist Leomacs, it’s the end of the summer and June Branch is visiting Brody Island to meet up with her boyfriend, Liam. Liam has spent the season on the island interning with the police department. He’s been taken in by Chief Clausen, famous for his museum quality collection of Viking artifacts.
During their last night on the island, a group of prisoners escape from the local prison, sending the entire police force out into the dark after them. So June is on her own when the convicts show up at the Chief’s house. The only thing she has to protect herself with is a legendary Norse axe from the Clausen collection and she put it to use, lopping off the head of one of her attackers.
To her (and the reader’s) surprise, the attacker’s decapitated head is still alive and talking. What ancient Norse magic is this? We don’t know but we do know that there’s more going on that a simple prison break. Liam is in trouble and June and her magic axe are going to have to save him.
