Billboard’s Hot 100 of 1973: Rocky Mountain High

Rocky Mountain High

A lot of great music topped the charts during 1973, our founding year. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Eisenhower Public Library every other Sunday with selections from Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 Singles.

Rocky Mountain High is the sixth studio album from singer-songwriter John Denver. It was his first Top 10 album thanks to the single “Rocky Mountain High.” The song was primarily inspired by John Denver’s move to Aspen, Colorado, three years before its writing and by his love for the state. Today, “Rocky Mountain High” is one of the two official state songs of Colorado. The other is “Where the Columbines Grow.”
