September 19, 2019 Building and Grounds Committee Minutes

A Meeting of the Eisenhower Public Library District Board of Trustees Building and Grounds Committee September 19, 2019

CALL TO ORDER

Vice President Magnelli, called the meeting to order 7:00 P.M.

ROLL CALL

Present: Magnelli, Magnuson, Ross, Parent, Adams (7:28 P.M).
Absent: Braun, Ringelstein.
Also Present: Wittmann, Bacarella, Sciaccotta, McPhillips, Lewis (7:23 P.M.).

BUILDING AND GROUNDS

Sprinkler System for the Grounds—
Tony Sciaccotta and Director Wittmann have met with two different companies and have received one proposal so far. The first proposal is just under $15,000. The cost in the proposal was for PVC piping with an additional cost for copper. A plumber is needed to put in a “T” to branch off from the water line. The library falls under the Chicago electrical code. Everything needs to be in conduit and this is an additional cost. Two extension heads are needed and 77 regular heads. The cost to winterize is $2500 and $2500 to turn the system on in the spring. They will be meeting with a few more companies in the next few weeks. Trustee Magnelli would like a diagram of the layout with the sprinkler proposals. It can be installed as late as the end of November. The project would take about three days.

Sundial at the Southeast Sitting Area 3. Outdoor Furniture (SW Corner/Newly Paved area) Maybe Tables?—
Director Wittmann advised that they need to wait to install anything in that area until the sprinkler system is installed. A sundial can be either purchased by the library or possibly made by the community. Trustee Ross would like to see pictures of sundials at the next meeting. Trustee Magnelli thinks maybe we can get a sundial big enough to use as a table. Director Wittmann will reach out to Winzeler Gear and to Anne Roberts to see if they have any ideas. Director Wittmann showed some pictures of outdoor chess tables and furniture with pricing. The Chess tables range from $1,000 to $3,000. Trustee Ross thinks granite would hold up better than concrete furniture. Trustee Magnelli said there might be other durable furniture. Trustee Ross would like the plant beds stained. He thinks it will look better.

Pavers/Stone Path on the South side of Building Leading to the East Sitting area—
Director Wittmann received a quote for pavers from 3D Brick Paving. The proposal is $19,630 to install pavers. Anne Roberts’ proposal would be higher due to prevailing wage. Director Wittmann will get a few more proposals. Trustee Magnelli would like a layout. Pavers would give a nice continuity and easier for snow removal.

Signage/Plaque to Designate the Planting Area Dedicated to Natalie at the Entrance Rotunda—
Director will get pricing for a plaque. The rock would have to be moved. Trustee Magnelli said maybe the rock could be engraved.

ADJOURNMENT

Trustee Ross moved, seconded by Trustee Magnuson, THAT THE MEETING BE ADJOURNED. A voice vote was taken and the motion carried. The Committee Meeting was adjourned at 7:29 P.M.

Type: Board and Minutes.
