“If you were a polka dot, where would you go?”
This zany and colorful graphic novel is recommended for readers age 6-10 who are fond of comic storytelling and wacky humor.
The psychedelic cartoon art is busy and bright, each page overwhelming my senses with color and funny details that extend the absurd adventure tale. Enjoy the ride as Dog and his pal Hat (his actual hat, who interacts with him from atop his head) slide into the city sewers in search of Dog’s lost polka dots.
Hat’s impulse buys from the corner store come in handy over the course of their adventure: an action figure to sweet-talk their way past Sewer Cat, cheese to appease the rats, a car to feed to the alligator… Much of this makes no sense but it becomes a story nonetheless. You will want to go back to explore the details on each jam-packed spread: the novelty shop, the sewers and (spoiler alert) Dog and Hat’s charming home. I look forward to the sequel!
