As you likely already know, the Eisenhower Library is closed, along with all the schools in the state, and lots of other businesses too. Many of you might be staying home in order to decrease the spread of the Coronavirus.
To keep you from going stir crazy without being able to borrow a book or a movie during this unprecedented time, we’ve been able to offer extended access to some of our digital and online materials while the library remains closed. With websites and apps like Hoopla Digital, TumbleBooks, Libby, and Flipster, you can stream or download eBooks, audiobooks, comics, movies, music, magazines, and more right to your computer, tablet, or smart phone.
With Hoopla Digital, you have access to hundreds of thousands of movies, full music albums, audiobooks and more. Thanks to Hoopla’s always available lending model, you won’t have to worry about holds or wait lists. Hoopla is especially great for reading comics and graphic novels on your tablet. I recommend the Locke and Key series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.
During this closure we have increase your borrows per month from 15 to 20. If you have a library card from another library, choose your home library when getting started at Hoopla.
In addition, Hoopla Digital is offering a Bonus Borrows Collection of more than 1,000 titles that will not count against the twenty items you can borrow from Hoopla each month.

Libby & Media on Demand from Overdrive
Thanks to the cooperation of dozens of participating Illinois libraries, Media on Demand (powered by Overdrive) is our most robust collection of eBooks and audiobooks accessible to our library card holders at mediaondemand.org or through the Libby App.
Most Overdrive materials are treated like physical items, each copy is able to be borrowed by one person at a time. During closure, we are adding “simultaneous use” items to our Overdrive collection that, as the name implies, allow multiple readers to borrow the same book at the same time. Right now, over 4000 classics from Duke Classics are available with no holds or wait lists!

As soon as we knew we were going to have to closed for an extended period, we put in a call to Kanopy.
With Kanopy and an Eisenhower Library card, you can stream up to ten movies each month. Kanopy focuses on thoughtful entertainment. So, if you’re not the superhero-Hollywood-blockbuster type, but prefer independent films, documentaries, world cinema, and classics, you’ll want to give Kanopy a try. We recommend anything from the Criterion Collection, Polish language films, and The Great Courses, which will not require any play credits to view.
Like the Great Courses, videos in Kanopy Kids, for those junior film buffs out there, can be watched without counting against your monthly credits. If you’d like, you can set up parental controls to make sure your kids are viewing age-appropriate content.
