ISLAND WITHIN A CITY BOOK COMMITTEE

Progress Report—
Director Wittmann reported that her and Dan McPhillips sorted all of the essays into chapters, to the best of their ability. She advised that they will probably have to reconfigure the chapters and collapse some of them into each other. She sent them to Rich to look at. Most of the essays are in Chapter 12, “Working together Coming Together”, they may change the name of that chapter. At this point they have counted 34 completed essays, and 4 in progress. She is creating a document containing all of the essays divided by the chapter headings they currently have in place in order to get an idea of what they might have for a minimum page count if they printed the book right now. She is going to invite all the committee members to the Basecamp project. Some of the essays were sent in from people and some are from interviews. Some interviews don’t read well as a transcript. Stacy advised that some of the interviews need to be edited. Trustee Krebs wrote an essay. Director Wittmann advised that they have 19,700 words and that would be around 100 pages. Julie reported that she has the Fire Department interview transcribed but not corrected, Arlene’s interview is transcribed. She has some stuff from the schools. Trustee Ringelstein thought maybe we could get a recipe from Biaggio’s. She advised that someone should reach out to Joanne from Floral Fantasy and David Kohler at Norridge Jewelers. Director Wittmann advised that they should start looking for an editor. Trustee Magnuson asked if anyone has spoken to Rex’s, Julie advised that she reached out and has not received anything yet from them. Trustee Krebs will try to get an essay from John Musker who grew up in Norridge and worked for Disney and co-directed The Little Mermaid and Moana.

Next Steps—
Director Wittmann advised that the next steps would be continuing to craft the interviews they have into essays and reaching out to the people mentioned. Once they get through Laura’s interviews, they should have a good amount of content and then they could put a deadline out for essays. Trustee Parent asked what Director’s vision would be for finding an editor. She advised that she was going to look back at earlier meetings where they discussed editors. She is going to have some information for the next committee meeting. Trustee Parent suggested adding names of editors to the Basecamp project page. Director Wittmann said she would do that.
