Figgy & Boone: The Big Cheese by Janee Trasler

Book cover for Figgy & Boone: The Big Chese
[Figgy:] “Cheesy toast with NO cheese?! What do you call THAT?
[Boone:]”Toast.”

Figgy is hungry, but Boone shares some terrible news “…we’re all out of cheese.” Now just what is a cheese-loving mouse to do? Sing about missing cheese of course! Luckily a big wheel of cheese bounces off a truck and rolls down the road right to the mousey duo. But, the size of the cheese wheel presents its own problems.

Graphic novels and comics books aren’t just for well established independent readers. Beginning readers can delve into the awesome world of speech bubbles and panels as well, and Figgy & Boone is a great series to try. The actual text is perfect readers who would normally read at a level one or two in the traditional reader section as it uses simple repeating sight words in a fairly good size print. The art supports and moves the plot along nicely.

Simple enough for readers starting out, and funny enough for established readers to enjoy. Fans of Elephant & Piggie or Thunder & Cluck should definitely give this a try.
