This is an intimate graphic memoir about the author growing up in America, but traveling to Egypt at least once a year to stay with her father and his new family.

In her coming of age story, Malaka explores her own identity, her family, and other relationships in her life and where she will land in the end. Her life becomes more complicated when her parents separate and her father moves to Egypt and starts a new family. As Malaka travels back and forth between her mother’s household in America and her father’s in Egypt, she wonders where she really belongs.

Her parents keep promising that it will not always be like this.
