As the #MeToo movement makes waves through all aspects of society, authors and booksellers also face challenging questions of considering the role of creator in the impact of content.
The author Junot Diaz (well-regarded for his Pulitzer Prize-winning The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Drown and This Is How You Lose Her, as well as having been held up as example of Latino success) faces several accusations of misconduct. These charges raise the question of how to separate the skill or beauty of a story from the reality of the storyteller, and where the responsibility of the book industry lies in deciding judgement.
Publisher’s Weekly has an interesting article on the ways booksellers are handling this situation.
