Knitting for National Parks by Nancy Bates

Knitting for National Parks

Even though I crochet and don’t knit, I’ve been excited for this book to come in, and it is as fun as I expected!

All 63 U.S. National Parks are represented by a clever, colorful knitted hat design in this well-photographed gem. Each project describes the park, and shares the image of the park that was used to inspire the hat design. A written overview of working the pattern is included, as well as a life size color stitch chart, yarn recommendations, gauge and needle instructions. Wet blocking is recommended for all the hats to give them a clean, finished look.

The only thing I would love to see to improve the designs is skill level recommendations, as the designs employ different techniques like color carrying, lifting bars of stitches to achieve texture, and working with double pointed needles. Ideas or tips on expanding the designs to other clothing, like sweaters, scarves, or mittens would also not be amiss.

A great project for yourself or a friend who is anticipating a trip to a national park.
