Library 100

We’ve seen several “top lists” recently, like The Great American Read and NPR’s Best Books of 2018.

I like investigating lists that rely on complex data to reflect opinion, like Amazon Charts, which tracks the most read and most sold books in all formats on Amazon – a more direct reflection of people’s actual reading habits than The NY Times or Publishers Weekly Best Sellers (also interesting lists, based on physical retailers’ sales).

WorldCat (a catalog of library holdings across the planet) has compiled a list of the top 100 novels that most frequently occur in worldwide library collections. Not surprising, the list is filled with classic literature, but popular modern books like Harry Potter and The DaVinci Code make a showing too.

Make a guess at the #1 novel before you check out the list!
