ISLAND WITHIN A CITY BOOK COMMITTEE
Progress Report—
Julie reported that she had an interview with the Community Kindness group and that she was still in the process of editing it. She was told that the Fire Department had a whole box of nostalgia, but the chief was currently out of town. Julie advised that Mark Fritz told her at the Community leader’s meeting that he was on the championship little league team. She is trying to convince him to write an essay. Dan advised that he spoke to Peggy Fuller, former Harwood Heights Mayor. She founded the Harwood Heights Historical Society. She said it was tucked away at the village hall. She took photos of all the houses in the neighborhood when she was mayor. She wrote an essay and said if we any questions that we could reach out to her. The Cucino Baggio’s owners were interviewed. They were involved in the pizza wars. Dan mentioned that maybe they could include a page in the book of salacious facts. Dan discussed a few stories he heard but was not sure if they should be in the book. One was a mob story and an arrest of a former politician. He also interviewed a former police officer. Dan would like to expand the range of dates of the stories, instead of starting at 1989. Trustee Parent recommended putting the pre-1989 information on the web and keep the book to the original dates. Director Wittmann will put it on the agenda next month to vote on expanding the dates of stories contained in the book.
Julie will provide the committee members with the release forms. Julie will go to Rex’s and try to get a story.
Proposed Chapter One—
Director Wittmann advised the she is still working on Chapter One. She has been looking through the local history files. She is trying to find businesses other than restaurants that are no longer here.
