ISLAND WITHIN A CITY BOOK COMMITTEE

Progress Report—
Dan McPhillips reported that a little progress was made. They had three interviews. It is still a little slow going. He would like more photos. Trustee Magnuson advised that she may have pictures. Whoever owns the photo has the copyright. We have to ask for permission. The committee will go through photos from Facebook groups. The Save the Band interview needs to be edited. There was discussion of leaving transcripts in tact or turning them into stories. Trustee Parent said we can revisit this once they talk to an editor.

Discussion of Hiring an Editors—
Penny advised that they reached out to a few editors a few years ago. She said that they may have to have most of the content before they work with an editor. Most of the stories have been compiled into a document except the Laura files. They have about 130 pages of content at this time. They will put a final date for submission of stories in the September newsletter. The committee agreed that September 30 would be the final date for the submission of stories. They will reach out to editors at that time. Rich advised that there are three scrapbooks from Mrs. Sieb, at the Norridge History Museum, which is open Tuesdays and Thursdays. He said there is a timeline there. The scrapbook ends in the 1980’s. It is interesting to look through. Dan advised that he will visit the museum. Julie said they had discussed having a timeline and gathering dates. Trustee Parent asked about the transcripts and he recommended using ChatGPT to translate them into a story. The committee thought that would be a good idea. Penny said it would be good to try one out to see how it looks.

Next Steps—
Dan McPhillips advised that the next steps would be to craft a proposal for an editor, publish content in the newsletter with a final push for stories and photos along with a story, and match up permission forms with essays.

Next Meeting Date
The committee will meet next on August 15, 2024 at 7:00 P.M.

No Report.
