“Every time I Struggled to fit into the world around me, I thought if I flew far away enough, the perfect home would magically appear. But when your roots are tangled up across so many different places, that perfect world may not exist.”
This graphic novel and memoir is written and illustrated by Laura Gao and colored by Weiwei Xu.
Laura was born in Wuhan China and moved to the United States when she was four years old.
Her novel explorers her mixed heritage as an Asian transnational living in contemporary America. The outbreak of COVID gave Wuhan bad press, but the author shows it as a place of beauty and culture.
