If you’re anything like me, you’re not heading out to a theater anytime soon to see the new adaptation of Joanna Rakoff’s 2014 memoir My Salinger Year… even if you could find a screening nearby.
So you might as well just read the book. In it, Rakoff tells the funny and poignant story of her time as the assistant to the literary agent of the reclusive author, J.D. Salinger. She’s tasked with sending canned responses to the vast number of fan letters Salinger receives. But as she reads the letters, some them desperate and moving, she can’t help but dispose of the form letter and start writing personal responses.
