Netflix Launches Book Club with Nella Larsen’s Passing

Netflix has had tons of success by streaming original movies and TV series based on books. Now they’re taking it to the next level with a monthly book club and social video series, But Have You Read the Book?

Hosted by Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba, But Have You Read the Book? will invite the stars and storytellers behind Netflix’s latest book-to-screen adaptations to sit down for candid conversations. They’ll dive into the depths of how beloved characters, themes, and stories are brought to life on the page and on screen.

Netflix Book Club will kick off with Nella Larsen’s 1929 novel Passing, with its film adaptation hitting the streaming service on November 10th. Passing follows the story of two Black women who can pass as white and choose to live on opposite sides of the color line during the 1920s Harlem Renaissance era.

Passing is available in multiple formats to borrow from the library in advance of the new book club and adaptation. If you’re excited to watch the movie but don’t subscribe to Netflix, you can borrow a Roku streaming device from Eisenhower and use our subscription. The social series, But Have You Read the Book? will be available to view on Youtube and Facebook starting November 16th.
