New Media on Demand & Libby Features

Has your audio or eBook ever arrived when you weren’t quite ready for it? Have you ever been overwhelmed by too many holds coming in at once?

Starting in March 2020, the Media on Demand website, Overdrive, and Libby apps were updated with a new feature giving you more control over your holds.

The new “deliver later” feature is designed to give you the chance to borrow and read titles when it’s most convenient for you. Delivering a hold later means you stay at the front of the wait list, but pass the current copy to the next person in line.

To support this feature, the automatic hold checkout setting will be removed, and you will need to manually borrow your holds when they’re available. This includes currents holds on your account.

When a hold becomes available for you, you’ll receive an email and a notification. You’ll be given the option to borrow the hold, have it delivered later, or cancel it.

If you choose to borrow it:

  • You will have three days to borrow the hold using the Media on Demand website or Libby app.

If you choose to have it delivered later:

  • You’ll stay at the front of the wait list, and the current copy will go to the next person in line.
  • You’ll have the option to choose the earliest date you’d like the title to be delivered. Then, after that date, you’ll get a copy when the next person returns it.

If you choose to cancel the hold:

  • The hold will be removed from your account, and the current copy will go to the next person in line.

If you take no action:

  • At the end of the three-day pickup window, the hold will be automatically suspended for seven days.
  • You’ll stay at the front of the wait list, and the current copy will go to the next person in line.
  • You will receive another notification and email when the title is available to borrow.
  • If you take no action a second time, your hold will be canceled automatically.
