The Meeting of the Eisenhower Public Library District Board of Trustees Island Within A City Committee October 16, 2025.
CALL TO ORDER
Vice President Magnelli called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.
ROLL CALL
Present: Magnelli, Magnuson, Parent, Ringelstein, Ross, Stam.
Absent: Blubaugh, Krebs, Massaro, McPhillips.
Also Present: Wittmann, Bacarella, Derrig, Storelli, Attorney Tom Melody (7:12 P.M.).

Editor, Jennifer Storelli was in attendance.

There were no minutes to be approved.
Island Within A City
A. Island Within A City Book
i. Progress Report
Jennifer Storelli reported that she has edited all materials provided to her so far. She noted that there were several PDF research documents in Basecamp related to Jim Walewander, and asked whether the committee would like her to write an essay based on that research. She also mentioned that she would be ready soon for a second round of edits, which she hopes would primarily involve grammar refinements.
Director Wittmann suggested that the committee consider hiring a designer for the layout or exploring options for a self-publishing designer. Trustee Parent agreed, noting that a designer could be highly beneficial, and Trustee Magnuson expressed support as well. Jennifer mentioned that she has someone she could recommend for the role. Director Wittmann will also look into finding a few additional designers, as the committee would like to review at least three proposals.
ii. Pictures
Dan, Julie, Penny, and Stacy have had separate discussions about the need to match photos to the essays. Director Wittmann noted that they could still include a dedicated photo section, possibly placed in the middle of the book. Alternatively, photos could be inserted alongside relevant chapters. Julie and Director Wittmann are scheduled to meet tomorrow to discuss edits to book, including how to incorporate the photos.
iii. Next Steps
Julie and Director Wittmann will meet to address all of Jennifer’s questions. Julie will also be interviewing Director Wittmann, Penny, and Peggy on behalf of the library. In addition, they will meet with Penny and Dan next week to ensure all questions are covered and to determine whether any photos need to be sourced. Trustee Magnuson suggested that Attorney Tom Melody might review the stories as well.
B. Next Meeting Date
The committee will meet next on January 15, 2026 at 7:15 P.M.

Trustee Ross moved, seconded by Trustee Parent, THAT THE MEETING BE ADJOURNED. A voice vote was taken and the motion carried. The Committee Meeting was adjourned at 7:16 P.M.
