“The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars, One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.“
I was hooked right away by the tagline for Karen McManus’s first book, One of Us is Lying but it took me almost two years to finally read it. When the sequel came out in January of this year, I didn’t make the same mistake. It did take me almost a whole year to get around to writing this review though.
This time around, the stars of One of Us is Lying have moved on with their lives and the next generation of students at Bayside High School have their own manipulative murderer to deal with. There’s a text-based game of truth or date going around school and if you’re unlucky enough to get a message on your phone you either take the dare or risk having your embarrassing secrets exposed.
But when one risk-taker dies while taking a dare, our new set of protagonists have to track down the sadistic game-master before things get really bad.
If you’re a fan of the first book, you might miss those familiar character (they do make cameo appearances) but don’t wait too long to read this; the twisty mystery of One of Us is Next will keep your heart pounding until its thrilling climax.
