Plain Bad Heroines is two stories that are intertwined- one story takes us back to 1902, to a scene of tragedy at an all-girls school, and the other to the present day filming of a horror movie based on those events.
In the past, we learn about the history of Brookhaunts School for Girls, and about Libby and Alex, the women who run it. The more we learn, the more we see how dark and sinister the history of the school truly is. Was the school really cursed by the two girls who died, or is it all a series of terrible coincidences?
In the present day, Merrit’s book on the history of the school is being turned into a horror film starring Harper Harper, the famous actress, and the lesser known Audrey Wells. As the women spend more time on set, the lines between what is real and what isn’t begin to blur. Something strange is definitely happening, and it’s unclear how much is supernatural, and how much is just Hollywood trickery.
This book is horror, and definitely has many scenes to creep you out, but since the tone is overall humorous and witty it never gets truly terrifying. Perfect for people who like their horror served with a side of humor!
