Robert Plant continually manages to change up the sound of his music without compromising quality. While he may not have the vocal range he once did, it does not detract from this album.
Longtime fans of Plant will not be disappointed with Carry Fire, as much of the tone hearkens back to his classic rock roots without seeming pandering. Most of the songs also have folk elements to them, and include rich drum beats, whimsical acoustic guitar, a banjo, and even a sitar. If you are looking for an accomplished musician with a unique sound and nothing to prove, look no further. A sellout he is not.
