“You grow readers, expand minds, if you let them choose, but you go banning a read, you stunt the whole community.”
This is the second novel of two; the first one is The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. Both books are very enjoyable.
In the first book, Cussy Lovette is an outreach librarian delivering books by mule in Kentucky. Now her daughter Honey Lovette is seventeen years old and on her own, because her parents are in jail for violating Kentucky’s misogyny laws, which outlaws the marriage of two different races.
Honey is very brave in fending off bullies and ignorance on her route. She also befriends a few very strong women. Honey uses her mother’s mule who remembers the route.
I highly recommend both novels!
