The Girl from the Sea by Molly Knox Ostertag

The Girl from the Sea

“We treat the things that soak up energy and resources like they’re valuable, and the things that generate them like they’re disposable. We don’t celebrate batteries. And I think that’s wrong.”

Morgan is a fifteen-year-old girl saved from drowning by a Selkie named Keltie. She’s a mythological creature who is half human and half seal. Both girls are attracted to each other and they kiss.

Morgan is worried because she has not yet told her family and friends that she is attracted to girls.  However, when the secret is out, Morgan and Keltie go to a dance together and friends and family are supportive.

This story explores the peer pressure that teens experience.
