“She had the kind of beauty that hurt your eyes if you looked at her for too long, but made it hard to tear your gaze away. It was, Hannah realized, as if a different kind of light were shining on her than on the rest of the room.”
The quote describes April Clark-Cliveden, the “it girl” in Ruth Ware’s book, who has it all, beauty, personality and rich parents. Hannah is April’s roommate for their first semester at Oxford. They gather a group of friends, Will, Hugh, Ryan and Emily. However, at the end of the semester April is dead.
Now, a decade later, the man convicted of killing April, dies in prison and a reporter thinks he was innocent. This makes Hannah look at what happened back in college. Hannah is currently married to Will and expecting their first baby. Hannah has many unanswered questions.
Was the right man convicted? Do her friends have something to hide?
An interesting journey with quite the twist at the end!
