“What my uncle said made me think. I had resented America, too. But by reading their books, I saw the other side of them–their humanity. Somehow I was sure that if people were willing to read each other, and see the light of other cultures, there would be no war on earth.”
This book is beautifully written and the quote about learning other cultures really resonated with me. I grew up seeing the Vietnam war on television every day and because of this, I hated war. Reading a book written by the “enemy” exemplified for me, that we all have similar goals, to live in peace and happiness with our families and to make a contribution to society with our work.
This book contains a lot of destruction and sorrow but also a lot of hope and love.
