The Ogress and the Orphans by Kelly Barnhill

The Ogress and the Orphans

“I will share whatever I can. After all, the more you give, the more you have. It is the only true thing I know.”

This middle grade and children’s book is an excellent read! I picked it up because it is listed on the Goodreads list as one of the best book of 2022. I enjoyed it for both the writing and the messages.

It addresses topics like fake news, propaganda, the importance of being neighborly, and the amazing ways in which kindness can change people.

The author does this by creating a fable of a pretend town called Stone-on-the-Glen, then demonstrating how these different topics change the townspeople.

The quote above is the mantra of the Ogress who demonstrates so much kindness, but all in secret. I highly recommended this book for readers of all ages!
