This Oscar-nominated biopic brings us inside the life of Stephen Hawking, theoretical physicist and cosmologist.
While a graduate student at Cambridge University, Hawking begins to experience difficulty controlling his extremities before ultimately being diagnosed with ALS, the motor-neuron disease commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Although the film does well in demonstrating the day-to-day challenges he faced while developing his theories about the universe, it really shines when dealing with the affects a debilitating disease can have on family members; in this case, Hawking’s wife Jane, who’s tasked with caring for Stephen and raising their children while trying to continue her education and begin a career of her own.
