One of our goals at the Eisenhower Library is to make your experience using library services as easy as possible, including the process of finding materials.
While our current computer system does allow you to find items, it could definitely be better. For about the last decade and a half, our library consortium, SWAN, has offered online searching to librarians and patrons. The current computer system allows you to do all of the basics and then some. However, with the increased use of mobile devices, social media, and ebooks, we have often felt that there must be a better option. We wanted a software system that was more intuitive, with better mobile options, and seamless integration of ebooks and digital audiobooks. We’ve heard these things from you and we’ve experienced the frustration of not having a more advanced system ourselves.
Last year, SWAN staff decided to take a look at other library software systems, compare them to our current system, and see if we can do better. The answer was a resounding yes. Starting sometime in the spring of 2015, you will see a whole new SWAN. You will be able to search our catalog easily from your mobile device. You will be able to search the catalog from Facebook. You will be able to see and use our ebook collection in the catalog.
Change of any kind, good or bad, is often difficult to get used to. We will do everything we can to make this major transition as painless as possible. We are more than ready to enter into this new era of library service, and hope that you will find the new SWAN catalog as exciting as we do.
